Join Vancouver Youth Music Foundation for our 2026 season of our Community Joint Recital. Presenting a vibrant concert experience featuring talented students and teachers from across Greater Vancouver. Celebrate music, community, and the next generation of performers at the beautiful Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church.

Inviting young musicians of all levels and instruments, the Community Joint Recital is the stage to shine and demonstrate the efforts of all your hard work.

The recital will take place on Saturday May 23rd, 2026 and Saturday May 30th, 2026 both taking place from 1PM-2:30PM

In your registration please remember to choose your preferred date. We will accommodate as per order of registration received.

For teachers with students interested in signing up: Please direct your students’ parent/guardian to this page. Please advise the students on repertoire/composer names, repertoire lengths, and approximate playing level.

For parents signing up your own children: Please consult your teacher on repertoire/composer names, repertoire lengths, and approximate playing level.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long can my performance be?

  • In consideration to all students who have signed up, every performer is allocated a 5 minute performance time. This time includes walking on and walking off.
  • You may perform multiple pieces if they fit within the allocated 5 minute window.
  • Performances over 5 minutes is allowed, but are subject to a flat $20CAD surcharge. 

Does my performance need to be memorized?

  • While it is highly recommended that performers play from memory, it is NOT required to perform your repertoire memorized.
  • Music stands will be provided should they be requested in the sign-up form.

Does my performance count as ensemble or solo?

  • You are a solo performer if your piece is performed by yourself unaccompanied, with a piano accompanist, or with your teacher on any other instrument.
  • You are an ensemble performer if your piece is performed with other performers who are NOT teachers or a piano accompanist

Recital Etiquette

Make sure that you are in proper recital dress-code, generally similar to a formal dress code. You should:

  • Avoid spaghetti straps, sweatpants, platform shoes, flip-flops, or athletic footwear.
  • Avoid jingling jewelry or overly-flowing sleeves that may distract from your performance.
  • Practice in your recital outfit like a “dress rehearsal”, which includes walking on/off and bowing.

Confirm with your teacher what you will need for your performance. (A stand, a chair, etc.)

Make sure to review the concert order so you know when your performance will be.

Parents and guardians, please

  • Silence your phone before the start of the performances.
  • Avoid using your phone to take photos or videos during the performance, as we have designated photographers and videographers.
  • Avoid any distracting, loud, or light-producing actions during the performances.

Performers, please

  • Avoid talking amongst yourselves during others’ performances.
  • Be prepared when you are called backstage to warm up.
  • Listen to all directions from stage managers and staff

Performers, please:

  • Clean and put away your instruments.
  • Pick up after any garbage you may have left behind.
  • Ensure you have not left anything backstage.

Parents and guests, please feel free to take photos amongst yourselves, and gather in the sanctuary where there may be a reception should time allow.

You may join this recital as a solo player with or without an accompanist, as a part of an ensemble, or both! Registration for a standard solo-performance 5 minute time slot begins at $80CAD*, which includes:

Young performers are invited to challenge themselves and bring their best performance. As all performances will be professionally recorded, the video and audio can be used for future auditions, scholarship opportunities, and as cherished memories.

Solo performers are encouraged to use as much of the 5 minute time slot as possible. For which they are more than welcome to perform more than one (1) piece. Younger performers who cannot make the best use of the full 5 minutes will be assigned a 3 minute slot, for which they will receive a discount on the performance fee.

Ensemble ONLY performers are offered a standard 5 minute time slot at a $40 CAD for each performer. Ensemble players whose ensemble cannot make full use of a 5 minute time slot will be allocated a 3 minute time slot, with a discount on their performance fee

Solo & ensemble performers are offered both 5 minute time slots at the standard solo performance fee of $80CAD with a 50% discount on the ensemble performance fee. Additional discounts may apply given performance time.

Media Release and Authorization

By registering for and participating in the Joint Recital, each performer, and where applicable their parent or legal guardian, grants the Vancouver Youth Music Competition and its authorized representatives the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free right and permission to photograph, record, film, and otherwise capture their name, likeness, image, voice, and performance.

Participants further grant the Vancouver Youth Music Foundation the unrestricted right to use, reproduce, publish, broadcast, distribute, and display such media, in whole or in part, for lawful purposes including, but not limited
to:
promotional materials
marketing and advertising
websites and social media
print publications
broadcast media
archival purposes without further notice, consent, or compensation.


All such photographs, video recordings, and other media shall remain the sole and exclusive property of the Vancouver Youth Music Foundation.



Release and Waiver

By participating in the Joint Recital, each participant, and where applicable their parent or legal guardian, fully releases, waives, and holds harmless the Vancouver Youth Music Foundation, its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, contractors, representatives, and affiliated venues from any and all claims, demands, damages, losses, costs, expenses, actions, or causes of action arising out of or relating to participation in or attendance at the Joint Recital, except where such release is prohibited by law.


Binding Agreement

Participation in the Vancouver Youth Music Foundation Joint Recital constitutes full acceptance of this Release Agreement, and this Agreement shall be legally binding upon the participant.
